Ana y su Sombra

In partnership with Cincinnati Opera, ROKCincy presented Ana y su Sombra, written by Gabriela Ortiz. Ana y su Sombra is a Spanish/English opera about a homesick young girl and her precocious shadow, each trying to find their own identity in a strange place. We took this show to 3 local schools and ended with a free, public performance at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater in Price Hill.

Music Director: Stephen Variames

Ana/Yeya: Christina Kerstan

Sombra: Christina Bilz

Kevin Truax: Old Oak Tree/Pete/Asombra

Matthew Umphreys: Piano

Karen Lee: Violin

Nave Graham: Flute

ROKCincy would like to thank Melanie Chavez, Jeremy Campbell, and Cincinnati Opera for their support of this production.

ROKCincy’s Place in our Community

With arts programming rapidly disappearing from our schools and communities, ROKCincy plays a pivotal role in bringing together young people and families to enjoy the excitement of live performance.

It’s been proven over and over that a well-rounded education which includes the Arts improves focus, communication, and test scores. Early exposure to performance inspires curiosity and broadens the scope of a young person’s world.

Opera is a fantastic introduction to the Arts because it incorporates so many different dynamic art forms; from music, literature and drama to scenery and costumes – there is truly something for everyone!
